I believe the author had good intentions with this story, but she needs to hire a good editor! The grammar, spelling, and misuse of names was quite annoying. I figured out who the murderer was immediately as well, so not really a mystery.Product details

The story was interesting but sometimes it took more time to read some mistakes. The only problem with the mistakes is that there can be confusion when different names are used for the same character. This book was not terribly long but enough content for giving the characters an interesting storyline. Short stories mean that you can read the book in one day and is not overly drawn out. I would still recommend this book to anyone who likes mysteries.
Not kindle unlimited, permafree? Will try to read Cooking with the Dead on ku but Dining with the Dead is not ku, may not be worth it.
Not the worst cozy have read but not the best so not a 4 and definitely not a 5. Was confusing in too many places, saw reviews that said needed better editing but since have my computer read to me that was not an issue in that it didn't seem to mess up the audio reading.

This was a quick read that basically started with a woman's scream being heard by the lady owner of the boarding house.. No one else claims to have heard the scream. The woman that they thought screamed is in her room and says she did not scream. The next morning things change. The police are called in and everyone is a suspect. The setting is Rockport, Massachusetts.
On a personal note - I don't get the title. I didn't think the character was hated. I am a fan of Rockport, Massachusetts. It's a quaint seaport town in northern Massachusetts.
This novella was a quick light suspenseful read. While I didn’t think it was as good as Ms. Marsh’s other books, it was still a good read. Ms. Marsh spins some mystery throughout with lots of suspects and possibilities. I thought the ending was tossed in and not put into the story smoothly. If the story had hinted at the problems or was written in differently I would have liked it better. I think there could be some touch up done on the story however overall it is not a bad story and was a good read.
Overall this book was a unique and fun quick read. If you want a book that is a light quick read with some mystery, then this is the book for you.
This is only the second book I've read from this author and the first in this particular series. The writing is better than it was in the other book but still needs a little work.
The pros It's a quick read, free of violence and sex.
The cons The characters aren't developed very well. The ending was abrupt. One minute they're discussing something and the next they're arresting someone that wasn't even considered a suspect.
Conclusion I'll probably read another one in the series to see if the writing, character and plot development get better.
Another quick read by Carrie Marsh.
I hope she continues to write these cozy mysteries, I love them.
Thankfully Ms Marsh knows how to weave a tale, without all the sex and
violence that are in a lot of books.
Ms Marsh's books are a great way to wind down after a long hard day.
The Case of The Hated Body left me guessing right to the end. It's a case of
being in the wrong place at the wrong time and doing the wrong things, that
bring several people under suspicion. But in the end, the good guys catch the
bad guy.
The Rockport Heights Hotel is the main attraction to the local area. Guests can stay up to 6 months at a time but no longer. Jessica hears a scream on morning from Rebecca's room, a guest but when asked said she didn't hear it. Then Rebecca's body is found by the maid Judy. When the police arrived another guest, Julian Rhys, was kneeling by the body. Julian is an investigative reporter from Chicago. He told the police Rebecca was hiding from her abusive husband. But things don't add up to Inspector Richard Watson. As they dig deeper into everyone's story, it comes to light that there is a missing lottery ticket worth ten million dollars that Rebecca had. Can the Inspector figure out the truth of who killed Rebecca and the lottery ticket? Read the book to find out. I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book.
